VOTING INFO

All of the work we’ve done won’t matter unless you cast your ballot.

MAKE IT COUNT. VOTE!

It all comes down to two elections this fall.

Cleveland votes twice!

The City of Cleveland holds a Primary Election on Tuesday, September 9 and a General Election on Tuesday, November 4—both from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. The top two finishers in the primary election will advance to the general election. You do not need to vote in the primary to vote in the general—but we want you to vote in both elections.

Deadline to register for the primary election is August 11. Not registered? Register to vote!

If you’re already a registered voter, you’re already set. But, before you assume, be sure to… check your registration.

Map of the new Cleveland Ward 5

Here’s a map of the new Cleveland Ward 5. To check your exact polling location and ward, please visit the Board of Elections website.

The Ohio Secretary of State’s website provides a convenient and secure way to register to vote or update your address. You will need to provide the following:

  • Ohio Driver License or State ID number
  • Name
  • Date of birth
  • Address
  • Last four digits of your Social Security number
Vote by Mail

You can vote before either election by applying for a Vote-by-Mail/Absentee ballot. Military and overseas voters can vote this way too.

Vote Early in Person

Anyone registered to vote in Ohio and living in Cuyahoga County can come in to the Board of Elections and vote at the scheduled times.

Vote on Election Day

You only need to provide one (1) of the acceptable forms of ID listed below.

These must show your name and have a valid expiration date

  • An Ohio driver license (A digital ID, such as driver license in Apple Wallet, is not an acceptable form of photo ID for voting)
  • An Ohio state ID card
  • An interim identification form issued by the Bureau of Motor Vehicles
  • A U.S. passport or passport card
  • A U.S. military ID card, Ohio National Guard ID card, or U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs ID card (that includes the voter’s name and photograph)

A voter presenting an Ohio driver license or Ohio ID card that shows voter’s former address is permitted to cast a regular ballot so long as the voter’s current residential address has been updated with the Board and appears in the official poll list of registered voters for that precinct.

Voters who do not provide any ONE of these forms of acceptable ID at the polling location may still cast a provisional ballot. Those voters will have four days after Election Day to appear at the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections to show an acceptable ID.
